This guy is probably my second favorite non-Disney weasel (beaten only by "Bucky"), mainly because he stars in a cartoon I used to watch all the time as a kid: klangley.blogspot.com/2008/01/animaland-model-sheets-cuckoo.htmlAbout as slimy as you get, huh? He's not quite so devious-looking in the cartoon I'm familiar with.

*gasps* OMG! I remember watching those 9 shorts shown once in Turner Classic Movies. Great find.

I wasn't able to see all of it (My laptop will do that at times) but I think it was quite rude of that parrot to do that to that weasel.

Huh....after looking at weasels for so long with long muzzles, these guys kinda look like otters.

Nah, this guy looks like an otter: smg.photobucket.com/albums/v428/tymime/Weasels/Dough%20Re%20Mi/?action=view¤t=MMouse059-021.jpgI admit, though, it certainly is unusual for a toon weasel to have a short muzzle like they do in real life. The long muzzles look cool, but I've never understood why so many people do that... I just watched a downloaded copy of the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie- which I'll get rid of once I get the DVD- and I was surprised to learn how high-pitched Bucky's voice was. He seems to have a bit of a stutter, too. I didn't spot a voice credit that seemed to match, though- you would think he'd have the word "weasel" in his name. According to various websites, he's voiced by Susan Berman. Anyway, he doesn't appear to have an official name, so Bucky it is! So he did mention his friend "Freddie the Ferret", as well as "two little bunnies" and his mom. Was he in a kiddie show or something? I admit, I watched the scenes out of context...

I had a book about Lil' Wolf when I was younger. His dad seems nicer in this one.
Maybe they drew weasels like that to make them look more evil...? I never really thought about it. It could also be because weasels have been known with long muzzles for so long, people might think they look like something else.

I think cartoonists just started over-exaggerating the way a weasel's nose sort of comes to a point, and it went from there. I don't really understand very many animal stereotypes, save for a few traits here and there.
You can tell that the Big Bad Wolf (or Zeke Wolf) goes through some moral dilemmas throughout his history in the comics, especially when he's around the Foul Fellows Club members. He sort of goes back and forth, though- from adamantly naughty to a guilty conscience.
Overall, I've found that weasel toons that aren't by Disney are exceedingly rare. I don't know why. For some reason all examples of weasels I've seen assume that there are a lot more weasel toons than there actually are... I'm beginning to suspect that they're more common in children's books, which sort of toe the line between illustration and cartooning.

I wonder...should we make profiles for the non-Disney weasels, since we're doing the same for the weasels found in almost anything Disney?

If anyone wants to do that, they can. Thing is, I'm only interested in weasel toons who come from the Golden Age, or are reminiscent of the Golden Age. Those are like one in a million among all other species of toon... They're so rare that such a list would be very, very short anyhow.
Also, sometimes it's difficult to tell if they're a weasel. I found a character named "Willy" in a vintage DC comic, and he looks like a weasel, but they don't spell it out. Bucky isn't obvious either, but the WFRR reference just a few seconds earlier, and his mentioning of "Freddie the Ferret", a fellow mustelid, is proof that he's supposed to be a weasel.
It is a strange thing, though, that are several instances in which a Disney weasel assumes that you're familiar with the stereotype, as if they were a much more common stock bad guy than they really are, like foxes or wolves. I can't figure out what it is that they're talking about when I search outside of Disney...
