Prologue
Elmas Tomruk, now 34 years old, woke up to the sound of the morning prayer. She might've been living in the Toon neighborhood, but Turkish Toons weren't any less religious than Turkish humans. She groaned and sat up in her bed. Her long hair pooled her back as the sunlight streamed from the shutters. Another day in Istanbul. So much to do, so little time.
"Anne! Anne!" Her daughter called, rushing into the room. The 14-year-old weasel had medium-colored brown fur and faun-brown wavy hair. "C'mon, we're gonna be late!" She said excitedly. Elmas held her paws up. "Alright, I'm coming." With that, she got up and struggled to put on an orange dress.
"Is Arash coming to my skating competition today? Are you?" Aysu asked eagerly. "Yes sweetheart. Don't worry, I'll be there by the time it starts." Elmas said. As she tied her belt on, her wedding ring glimmered, "But remember, I have to pick up your brother from his painting course."
"Oh, OK. Just please be there! I KNOW I can crush Sibel in the dust!" Aysu begged. Elmas chuckled and stroked her daughter's face. "You're not going to crush anybody in your pygamas." Aysu looked down and reddened. "Riiiiiiiiiight. My bad." She ran out of the room.
Elmas smiled after her and hesitated before grabbing the car keys. She pulled out the heart-shaped locket she'd found 14 years before. She clicked it open and stroked the photogragh inside.
Smart Guy. He would've been so proud of his kids. Then again, if he were there, he'd probably be heartbroken at Elmas' new husband, Arash. What other choice did she have? The children needed a father figure, and she couldn't raise them all on her own. Arash was a kind, dutiful husband. He often told Elmas he loved her, and did everything he could to make her and the kids happy. But she didn't love him. She cared for him, but like a brother.
Her heart belonged to somebody else.
"Anne!" Aysu called. "Coming!" Elmas snapped the locket shut and ran out of the room.

Thank you very much, and enjoy ch. 1.
Chapter 1
Cagri poked his head from behind his canvas, trying hard not to blush. Sibel Kaya, who was both a skilled painter and his sister's skating rival, was giggling and chatting with her friends. Cagri's black eyes, which were curtained by his jet-black hair, had hearts in them as he watched her speak.
Sibel stopped talking and frowned, looking in his direction. Cagri gasped and hid behind his canvas again, blushing furiously. "She looked at me," he whispered to himself gleefully. "OK class, you can pack up and go, be sure to wash your brushes before leaving." The teacher, a Toon goose said.
Cagri nodded and took his paint-splattered aisle. Just as he was rising, he slammed into somebody, sending the aisle clattering to the floor. When the black-haired weasel looked up, he wanted to die: the person he'd run into was Sibel. She didn't look angry, but she didn't look very pleased, either. Her tight lilac blouse was splattered with orange, purple, and black. "U-uh..." Cagri choked on his words and stooped down to pick up his things. When he faced her again, he was thankful that his bangs hid his expression. "You're supposed to say you're sorry!" Sibel snapped. "He IS sorry!" Aysu came up behind him and glared at her rival. Sibel's glare froze when she saw her. "I didn't hear him," she said. "Well, take off your mask." Aysu snapped sarcastically, "Oops, my bad. You ain't wearin' one: that's your face!" She gripped her brother's shoulders and pulled him away.
"Why you always freeze up in front of that girl, I'll never know." Aysu said, a hint of disapproval in her voice. Cagri said nothing, and concentrated on looking at the ground.
~*~
"Hey, Arash," Elmas greeted her husband as the skating competition started. Her husband, a pale brown weasel with sand-colored hair and blue eyes, smiled and said, "So, who're we up against?" "Three competetors, all females. Two of them have won championships in the past, and one has been skating since the age of four." Elmas explained, handing him the popcorn. He nodded and said, "Yeah, well, Aysu'll beat 'em. She's been training for weeks."
Elmas nodded and turned to the competition. Sure enough, her daughter was already skating to the center of the rink. She was wearing a pink, knee-long dress and her mousy hair was tied back in a ponytail. "Come on, honey," Elmas whispered.
As the music started, Aysu began twirling like a dandelion on a windy day. She was an explosion of leaps, spins, and glides. The young weasel seemed almost one with the music, and not one hair fell out of place. Elmas sighed and wiped tears of joy from her eyes.
Smart Guy would've been proud.
"Elmas?" Arash turned his body towards her, "Why're you crying?" Elmas shook her head and refused to look him in the eye. "It's nothing, just...old cuts." She said finally. Arash didn't look convinced, but he nodded and continued to watch his stepdaughter's skating. With one last long note, the music finished, along with its partner.
The crowd clapped loudly. Cagri and Elmas grinned loudly while Arash stood up and cheered. Cagri noticed his mother's discomfort and put a paw on her knee. Elmas forced a smile and kissed her son's paw, "I'm fine, sweetheart." "And the winner is..." the Toon pig paused for effect, "Asyu Tomruk!" Asyu gasped and cheered loudly. She skated away from the other skaters and did a double jump, just for the joy of it. As she recieved her medal, she grinned like a clown and waved to her family.
~*~
"Next season, you're mine!" A red-haired skater shouted across the changing room. "Yeah, right!" Asyu shouted back, "In yer dreams!" A hand gripped her shoulder, forcing her to turn around. A hooded figure, its face shrouded, growled slightly at her. Asyu gasped and braced herself on the wall. "Who're you?" She asked in a huffy voice. "Do not be afraid, my little flower," The hooded figure said in a voice that sent chills down Asyu's back, "For I am here to help you."
"Try letting me go." Asyu challenged, trying to look menacing. The figure's hand went from the weasel's shoulder to her throat. It squeezed a little, making Asyu gag a little. "There," the figure said, "Now you'll listen. I know your mother is a widow." Asyu's face blazed. "How the hell would you know that?!" She demanded. "It doesn't matter." The figure said, "What DOES matter is that I know how to change that." "What, are you gonna get a time machine?" Asyu mocked. "Better; I can bring your father back from the dead, along with the rest of his crew. What was it called again? The Toon Patrol." The figure snarled. Asyu's eyes widened.
"Yes," the figure whispered, "Meet me tomorrow evening with your brother, Asyu. We'll talk business." With another jerk, the figure let go of Asyu and disappeared. Asyu panted before collapsing on the ground. It took her a few minutes to realize she hadn't told that figure her name, or the fact that she had a brother.

Chapter 2
"Cagri," Aysu asked her brother that night, "Do you ever think of Dad?" Cagri's fingers trembled as he put up his latest drawing on the wall. "...Sometimes." He said after a brief pause. Aysu relaxed; it's always easier to speak to someone if you have something in common. "Anne rarely talks about him, and when she does, she breaks down crying." She said sadly.
"She cries in her sleep, too." Cagri added quietly. He looked at her and asked, "Did something happen?" Aysu's eyebrows shot up; she often forgot what a deep thinker her brother was. "Well, actually, yeah," She twirled some hair in her paws, "Some hooded person showed up in my lockeroom. It said that it could help me bring Dad back."
Cagri froze. After a moment, he shook his head slowly, "Aysu, don't." Aysu couldn't believe her ears; this was a chance to bring their father back, and he was saying no! "And what d'you think we should do, O brother of mine? Watch as our mother breaks like a piece o' glass?!" She snapped. Cagri whimpered slightly and took a step back. "You do what you want," he said, "but I don't want to be involved." "Actually, you are." Aysu folded her arms, "It asked to meet you tomorrow. So, you'd better be there." Cagri looked at the ground, saying nothing. Finally, he nodded slightly. "Good. See ya tomorrow." Aysu pushed past him and went to her room, slamming the door shut.
Cagri sighed and rubbed his face, "Why can't I ever talk when it matters?"
~*~
"Ah, I see you finally decided to show up." The hooded figure said sarcastically. The sun was starting to set in the alley, and the evening prayer hummed in the background like a busy bee. "This is my brother, Cagri." Aysu said flatly. Her twin looked at his feet, playing with the end of his shirt nervously.
"Good. Now, I need to introduce myself." The hooded figure threw its hood back. Both were slightly surprised; it was a female weasel with graying blonde hair, a pale muzzle, and sapphire eyes. "I am Fatma, daughter of the voodoo priestess around here." She said, sounding so proud the twins half expected trumpets to start playing. "...Hey." Cagri said quietly. "Now, down to business." Fatma said, sitting cross-legged on the ground. Aysu started to kneel down and nudged her brother. When they were both seated, Fatma said, "So, before we start, do you want to bring all of the Toon Patrol back, or only your father?"
Aysu thought a moment. She was already getting lukewarm knots in her stomach at the thought of meeting her father, but the entire Toon Patrol...it seemed like a dream come true. In one of those rare moments of openness, Elmas had spoken to her children about the others; there was the loyal yet dim-witted one, the lady's man, the smoker, and the misunderstood one. They had both seen the photograghs their mother had brought from the USA, and the Toon Patrol had seemed nice.
Finally, she said, "All of them." For some reason, Fatma smiled in a satisfied way; it reminded Aysu of when she answered her teacher's question correctly. Only, on Fatma it was ten times creepier. "Excellent. Now, the first thing I need is a personal object from each of them. It can be anything; a hat, a lock of hair...then, I will light the candles and chant an incantation. This'll bring the Toon Patrol back." Fatmas explained. "What about their bodies? We don't even think they were buried." Cagri asked suspiciously.
"Oh, don't worry your punk little head over it." Fatma said with a cold, flat smile. "I'm not punk," Cagri said quietly. "Whatever," Fatma said, "And another thing, it has to be done the same day they were killed. So, have the objects here by..." she counted on her fingers, "the day after tomorrow." Cagri frowned. "That's not when they were killed." "Yes it is! I KNEW the Toon Patrol, OK? Maybe your mother didn't hear about it in time, but the day after tomorrow is the 14-year-anniversary in which they died! Period!" Fatma was speaking faster and faster, and Cagri couldn't help but notice her eye twitching and her smile growing tense. "Why are you helping us?" He asked, trying not to sound meek. "BECAUSE, I haven't had clients in years. When I heard about your mom crying her eyes out about her hubby, I just had to help." Fatma said, putting both paws on her chest. "Mmm-hmm." Cagri didn't sound convinced. "Well, we'll be on our way, thank you." Aysu said, grabbing her brother's arm. "Wait," Fatma called. When they turned, she handed them an odd-looking necklace. It was a circle of iron with a thick strand of ruby stone in the center. "This talisman is vital to the ceremony," she said, "It'll be used to bring the Toon Patrol. To remind you of what your task is, I want you to hold on it."
As she spoke, Cagri tuned out. He noticed that under her dusty gray mantel, she was wearing five or six necklaces; a bear's paw, a bird skull, even a sparrow's decapitated head. But what caught the black-haired weasel's attention was the talisman. It looked almost identical to the one she was handing his sister, except that instead of a ruby strand in the center, there was a strand of emerald. When Fatma followed Cagri's gaze, she slapped a paw over her necklaces. "Now go," she said, "and remember, it's our little secret."
Aysu followed and herded her brother out of the alley. When they were out of sight, Fatma grinned darkly and fingered her own talisman. "Soon," she whispered, "soon, they will pay."

Chapter 3
"Physco, Wheezy, Greasy, Stupid and Smart Guy." Aysu said as she scribbled the names on her wall. Cagri was sitting on her bed, looking at his lap. "Well, c'mon! Where d'you think we can get the supplies?" She asked and she bit her pencil.
Cagri thought a moment before speaking up, "Maybe in the States...?" His sister glared at him. "Uhu, sure. The States! How're we supposed to get there-" Aysu cut herself with a wide grin. She snapped her fingers. "We can ask the evil witch from Snow White! She's gotta have a teleportation spell 'r' somethin'!"
"You're forgetting she's evil," Cagri pointed out, "She'll never give it to us, even if we begged." Aysu opened her mouth to say something...then closed it. He had a point there. The witch, or 'Queen', was the most selfish woman in the Toon world; she'd tried to kill her own stepdaughter, for crying out loud! If they really were going to ask her for something, they would need something good.
Her sharp yellow fangs glinted in the evening rays.
~*~
The twins stood outside the Queen's castle, thoroughly impressed. It was a towering pillar of white marble with green ivy growing elegantly along the side. The air was filled with song, and after a moment, the Tomruk twins realized it was Snow White and her prince singing to each other. Aysu became a bit green and said, "Let's go before they start making out." Cagri was only too happy to follow her.
As they entered the basement, they were greeted by the musky smell of herbs and rotting apples. Cagri coughed and slapped a paw over his nose while Aysu pulled her shirt over her muzzle. Down below, they heard the Queen panting as she dipped apple after apple in the boiling cauldron. Aysu scoffed and rolled her eyes. "She can keep doin' that forever, the chick is NEVER gonna eat 'em." She whispered to her brother. Cagri nodded in agreement and hesitantly tapped the old hag on the shoulder.
He was greeted by a smack on the face, followed by a stinging feeling. Cagri gripped his cheek and tried not to cry out. The old hag growled at the twins and said, "Who are you? What d'you want?" "Look, lady," Aysu snapped as she helped her brother up, "We need your help." The hag arched a white, bushy eyebrow up. "What's in it for me?" She asked. 'I knew this was coming,' Cagri thought to himself as he wiped the blood on his shirt. Aysu grinned cunningly and reached in her jacket. She took out a sack with blood dripping from it. The hag's eyes lit up. "Is that...?" "Yep," Aysu grinned, "It's your stepdaughter's heart." She tossed it to the hag, who laughed darkly and actually reached inside. Aysu bit her lip as the witch held the heart in her palm, wettening it. She grinned and said, "You have done well. What do you want?"
"A teletransport spell." Cagri spoke up. "Of course!" The witch turned to the trunk filled with potions and pulled out two phials filled with a pinkish-purple liquid. She gave the twins a gap-toothed smile as she handed them the phials. "Drink half of this while concentrating where you want to go. You'll be there in seconds." She said. "Cool! Thanks!" Aysu said, tossing her phial in the air and catching it. The hag eyed them with interest. "So, how'd you do it?"
The twins exchanged a glance. "What?" Cagri asked. "You know..." The hag pointed to the bloody heart in her hand. Aysu felt cold sweat form on her forehead. "Oh! Um, we...dropped a crane on 'er." The witch cackled and clapped her hands together. "I've got to go see!" She cried, running up the stairs.
"Should we go?" Cagri asked nervously. "Definately." Aysu confirmed.
They uncapped their phials and took a tiny sip. They both thought, 'The Toon Patrol Headquarters'. As they felt their bodies dissolve, they heard the witch scream, "Hey! Snow White's not dead!"
The last thing they saw was the witch running back down the stairs, her eyes blazing with wrath.
~*~
"Ough!" "Oof!" "Sis, are you alright?" "Yeah, I landed on something kinda soft." "That's me!" "Oh, sorry."
The twins scrambled off each other and dusted themselves. They stood up and looked around. They were standing in a dusty, cold room with an old double bed next to them. The room looked altogether less glamourous than what they'd been expecting. The windows were shattered, the wallpaper was peeling off, and the mirror was smashed. Some of the cover from the bed were missing. "Man," Aysu wrapped her jacket around her tighter, "Are you sure this is the place?"
Cagri looked at the bed and said, "It is." Asyu frowned at her brother, "How do you know?" Cagri pointed to the bedframe. Aysu followed his finger and saw a scratched heart with the initials S.G and E.T in it. Aysu covered her mouth with her paw. She didn't realize she was crying until the lukewarm drops were dampening her fingers.
Cagri inhaled shakily and looked at the ground. Aysu noticed her brother's muzzle was streaked wet. "Let's just hurry, OK?" He asked. Aysu nodded and began to look around. Cagri steered out of the room and began to rummage through the dust-covered objects. Through it all, the twins caught glimpses of their mother's past; a happy birthday card addressed to her, a shriveled up bouquet, even an old photogragh of her and the Toon Patrol at Six-Flags.
Finally, Cagri called, "I found something!" Aysu wiped her eyes one final time before racing out of the bedroom and following Cagri's voice. She entered a moss-green room coated with pictures of female actresses and models. Some were clothed, others weren't. Cagri, who had slapped a paw over his eyes, held a rusty switchblade with a big 'G' engraved on the handle. "This must've belonged to Greasy." Aysu said. She grabbed it and put it in the plastic bag she'd been keeping in her pocket.
"Let's keep looking." She said. Cagri nodded, and they continued to look around.
Two hours later, they uncovered three other objects: a black tie dirty with ash and nicotine, a white shoelace, and a dirty buckle. "Alright, this'll have to do." Aysu said. Cagri nodded and said, "We need our father's object last." Aysu frowned. "How do you know?" Cagri looked away timidly as he explained, "I remember the photogragh of the Toon Patrol anne always keeps. The tie belongs to the blue weasel, Wheezy, the shoelace belongs to Stupid, and the buckle is from Physco's straightjacket." Aysu stared at her brother, astounded. That was more than he had said to anyone in a year or more. She shook it off and patted Cagri on the back. "Good work. Let's go, eh?" She said. Cagri nodded and drank the rest of the potion.
Again, they dissolved and found themselves in the living room.
