The wait is over! Again I know this is a short chapter but they'll get longer.
Chapter Four: Trouble in Toon Town
It was a regular Saturday morning at the Valiant household. Too regular as far as Maddy was concerned.
Maddy sat at the breakfast table, quietly munching her cornflakes. I wonder if Grandpa had to go through this much boredom, she wondered.
Nick, who had been sipping his coffee, noticed his daughter’s decidedly discontented attitude. “Why the long face, sweetheart?” he asked.
“I dunno,” Maddy sighed, “It just feels like nothing ever happens around here!”
Teddy looked up at his sister. “Things do happen around here!” he insisted. “We go to school, we play with Sherlock, we—”
“No!” Maddy cried, shaking her head, “I’m talking about exciting things, like going to another world or having an adventure!”
Nick laid his hand on Maddy’s shoulder. “What about Toon Town?” he asked, “There are plenty of adventures there.”
Maddy looked at her father with a hint of frustration in her eyes. “Dad, I’m talking about the epic kind of adventures! You know, like, fighting evil, saving the world, that kind of thing! I just wish something would happen!”
As if right on cue, her wish was granted. The tv, which had been on the whole while, showed a news reporter sitting at the desk. “This is Cary Patton for the Los Angeles News Broadcast. Our top story: Toon Town has lost its joy!”
Maddy turned her head, with surprise and intrigue. “What?” she wondered.
“Toon Town has become Gloom Town,” Carey continued, “We now turn to reporter John Nelson who is now at the once lively metropolis. Over to you John.”
Maddy’s eyes were completely glued to the screen as she listened to the whole story. Toon Town had mysteriously gone from a place of joy and laughter, to one of sorrow and despair. There was no explanation for the sudden change. Even the happiest of Toons had gloomy faces.
What could’ve happened? Maddy wondered. She had to find out! She stood up and ran upstairs to her room.
“Maddy?” Nick called.
Ignoring her father, Maddy continued on her way up the stairs.
This could be it! She thought This could be the adventure I’ve been waiting for!

Chapter 5: A Joy Lost
Later that day, Maddy snuck downstairs, trying not to make a sound. She had a backpack full of snack bars, a towel, a magnifying glass, and a few other necessities.
I’ve got to get to the bottom of this! Maddy thought.
She could hear her mother washing dishes in the kitchen. She snuck past the kitchen to the front door.
“Maddy,” Elaine said, not taking her eyes from her work.
Maddy winced. Busted! “Yeah, Mom?” she said.
“Where are you going?” Elaine asked.
“Oh, uh, I was—” Maddy paused a moment to think. “I was going to visit Grandpa’s grave!” she said quickly.
“Okay,” Elaine said, “just be back here in an hour.”
Maddy silently cheered. She had fallen for it! “Okay, Mom!” Maddy called. Then she went out the door. As soon as she was out of the house, she broke into a run.
Thirty minutes later, Maddy was standing in front of a tunnel. The tunnel led to Toon Town. She had passed through that same tunnel many times in the five years since her grandfather’s death.
The girl knew her mother would expect her to be home in half an hour. Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this, she thought.
Maddy was torn now, she didn’t want to get in trouble, but she wanted to find out what happened to Toon Town. After a few minutes of wrestling with her conscience, she made up her mind. She entered the tunnel.
As Maddy approached the end of the tunnel, the curtains drew themselves apart, revealing a shocking sight.
The animated world was normally an extremely happy place. Blue skies, sunshine, happy little Toon animals chattering and singing, and flowers blooming were the norm for Toon Town.
Now it seemed like a completely different place. The golden sunlight and blue skies had been replaced with grey, overcast skies. The trees and plants seemed to be dead. No birds sang, no animals chattered, and no flowers bloomed. A mist covered the area like a thick blanket. A chill hung in the air.
Taking a deep breath, Maddy took a step forward.
She had barely taken a few steps when a pair of bright lights shone on her. Maddy cried out, startled, and shielded herself from the blinding lights.
“Maddy?”
Maddy opened her eyes, and lowered her arms. She knew that voice! Squinting, she saw the outline of a yellow taxi cab.
“Benny?” Maddy asked. “Is that you?”
“No, it’s Johnny Depp!” the cab sarcastically replied. Yep, it was Benny all right.
“Benny!” Maddy cried.
She ran towards Benny, happy to see a familiar face. She threw her arms around the Toon cab’s hood.
“Hey, kiddo!” Benny chuckled.
“What’s going on, Benny?” Maddy asked.
Benny’s expression grew serious. “We ain’t exactly sure, but our joy and laughter’s been sucked out!”
“What about Roger, and Jessica, and the others?” Maddy asked anxiously.
The cab sighed and opened his right door. “Look, why don’t I just show ya.”
Maddy climbed into Benny and closed the door. The Toon cab started his engine and drove into the fog.

I have to keep that aspect of Benny's character, don't I? And, I don't mean to give it away, but the villain is a genuine human.

That's the thing about the characters, you've got to keep those aspects of their personalities in fics. You know how Smart Guy often uses similar souding words in his sentences? Example: You want we should disresemble the place? We all know he means disassemble. I've been careful to keep that element in my writings.

Chapter 6: Maddy’s Mission
Benny and Maddy didn’t have to drive far to get to Toon Town. What Maddy had seen in the countryside was nothing compared to the actual city. Hardly any Toons were on the city streets. The streets were dark and creepy, and the streetlamps were dim. Toon Town no longer looked inviting or charming. It now conveyed a sense of foreboding and fear.
Benny stopped to let out his young passenger. “This is as far as I go, kid.” Benny said. “But if you ever need me, just—”
“Stick out my thumb!” Maddy finished for him.
The cab smiled and drove off, leaving the girl alone.
Maddy just stood where she was for a few minutes, observing her surroundings. After getting a sense of where she was, she walked down the street to Roger’s house. Fifteen minutes later, Maddy arrived at Roger’s door. She took a deep breath, and knocked.
A minute later, the door opened a crack Maddy could see Roger’s blue eyes peeking through the crack.
As soon as he realized who it was, Roger flung the door wide open.
“Maddy!” Roger cried as threw his arms around her in a tight embrace. “Boy, am I glad to see you!” he gushed.
“Me too, Roger, but you’re suffocating me!” Maddy gasped.
“Oh, sorry!” Roger said as he loosened his grip.
“Roger,” Maddy said, catching her breath, “What happened here? Where are Jessica and the other Toons?”
“Jessica’s with the unaffected Toons at City Hall,” Roger replied, “What’re you—”
“Wait,” Maddy interrupted, “What do you mean by ‘unaffected’ Toons?”
“A few of us Toons weren’t affected by whatever it is that stole our happiness, because we weren’t in Toon Town.” Roger said. He went on to explain that he and Jessica had been on a dinner date, and were taking the road home by the Acme factory when they saw a light in the sky. The light then emitted a strange beam that drew the happiness of the Toons and Toon Town into the light. Just as quickly as it came, it was gone.
Maddy was stunned by Roger’s story. She knew she had to do something about it. “Roger, take me to City Hall,” she said in a firm voice.
They reached City Hall in no time at all. Roger knocked on the door. A peephole opened, and a large eye looked through it.
“Got the password?” a deep, rough voice asked.
“Andreas Deja.” Roger answered.
The peephole closed and there was the sound of locks being opened. The door opened and there was a large gorilla wearing a small tuxedo jacket. He looked suspiciously at Maddy.
“She’s with me.” Roger explained.
The ape stood aside to let the two in. Maddy looked at the gorilla once over. “Nice monkey suit,” she quipped.
The gorilla gave her a dirty look and then muttered something like “You kids and your sass…”
Maddy chuckled to herself as Roger led her to a large room occupied by a couple dozen Toons of all kinds; anime, CGI, stop-motion, and Western. Among them were Kim Possible, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, Baby Herman, Pikachu, Stitch, and many others as well.
The Toons’ faces immediately lit up with joy to see Roger, but they were more excited to see Maddy.
“Roger, darling!” a honey-sweet voice called out.
Maddy looked up to see Jessica, sexy as always, taking Roger in her arms.
After a romantic moment with her husband, Jessica turned her attention to the young human. “Maddy, what are you doing here?” she asked.
“I wanted to find out what happened,” Maddy replied, “and if I could help. What are you guys doing here?”
“We were discussin’ what to do!” Baby Herman said, taking a puff on his cigar. “We need to get our joy back in one week or Toon Town’ll disappear!”
Maddy gasped. Toon Town would disappear?! Now she knew she had to help! “I’ll get it back!” she announced.
A nervous chatter arose from the crowd of Toons. Baby Herman walked up to Maddy. “Look kid, we appreciate you wanting to help, but you’re just a kid!” he said not unkindly.
“It could be really dangerous!” Roger added.
“I don’t care!” Maddy snapped, “I want to help, and I can!”
The Toons looked at each other. They knew she was just a child, but they also knew children could do great things.
“All right Maddy,” Jessica said, “We’ll let you try.”
Maddy’s heart leaped with excitement. “Yes!” she crowed.
“But I’m comin’ with ya!” Roger said firmly.
Maddy nodded with approval. She knew she couldn’t make this journey all alone. “Let’s go!” she said anxiously.
“Wait!” The Fairy Godmother called out. “We’re going to give you some things that will help you on your journey.”
The first Toon to approach Maddy was Kim Possible.
“Here, Maddy,” Kim said, as she handed Maddy her Kimmunicator.
Maddy just stared for a few seconds, and then took the Kimmunicator. “For me?” she asked, “But, don’t you-”
“I’ve got another one, and Wade’ll be there to give you some tips.” Kim said reassuringly.
Maddy smiled and hugged the teen crime-fighter. “Thanks, Kim!” she said.
“No big,” Kim replied.
The Fairy Godmother was next. “Now, take off your backpack,” she instructed, “and put it on the floor, dear.”
Maddy obeyed and laid her bag on the floor. The Fairy Godmother waved her wand and uttered her famous incantation:
“Bibbidi-Bobiddi-Boo!”
Sparkles and light flowed from the Fairy Godmother’s wand and towards Maddy’s backpack. The bag became surrounded by the magical light and glowed brightly. The light faded and Maddy picked up her bag. She couldn’t see any difference.
“All you have to do is say what it is you need and reach in and it will be there,” the Fairy Godmother explained.
“Give it a try, Maddy!” Roger prompted.
Maddy unzipped her backpack. “Flashlight,” she said. She reached in and to her amazement, pulled out a flashlight! She hadn’t packed a flashlight back home. Laughing with surprise, she put the flashlight back in her bag and zipped it back up. “Thanks, Fairy Godmother!” she said happily.
Maddy received another gift, pixie dust from Tinker Bell.
After a brief exchange of farewells and a ‘be careful’ or two, the child and the rabbit were on their way.
"Roger," Maddy said, "you remember the weasels that worked for Doom?"
"Unfortunately, yes." Roger said.
"They were that bad?" Maddy asked.
"Worse," Roger said. "Their hearts were as black as ink! Sometimes I wonder if they even had hearts!"
Maddy had heard stories of the weasels' treachery, but she wondered if Roger was maybe exaggerating.
"Dirty, lyin', backstabbin' soundrels, that's what they were! Incapable of love or guilt!" Roger continued.
Maddy's eyes widened slightly. She had a little trouble believing someone could be that evil.
"We'd better get movin', kiddo!" Roger said urgently, "We don't have much time!"
The ten-year-old nodded in agreement. In her excitement to finally be having an adventure, ran ahead of Roger, forgetting about the fog and the darkness that shrouded the town. Roger called out to the girl to wait for him, but she ignored him. Before she knew it, Maddy had lost Roger. -- Elaine looked up at the clock. It was now 4:30, and there was no sign of her daughter. Her concern had now grown to worry. She went to the phone, and dialed 9-1-1.
“Los Angeles Police Department, is this an emergency?”
“Yes, I need to report a missing child!” Elaine said worriedly.
-Side note: Andres Deja was the supervising animator for Roger in the movie. His specialty is villains. He animated Gaston, Jafar and Scar. He's my hero.
