I think some of us think that Stupid isn´t so stupid. Maybe he thinks vrey slow, but he recognises when someone makes jokes with him. Or it could be that he acts like that, because it´s much easier to don´t think than to think and watch up to make it right. He is just like my best friend Daniel, if he is that way. He is LAZY!

I think he lives up to his name- after all, all the others do- but he's very innocently stupid, like an oversized child. I once saw this guy who happened to be mentally retarded, and he could recognize it when people didn't respect him. So even when you're born that way, it's possible to see when someone insults you. Then again, I'll bet Smarta** could probably think of an insult that goes right over his head...

So you mean he is a bit mentally disabled? Yes it could be. He looks like an adult one in size, but as a 5 year old one in behavior and outfit!

Not nessecarily- it could be that he was created that way, or perhaps his parents never took him to school. That is, if he had parents. I think he has parents.

I think so, too. The way he is reminds me on my best friend Daniel. His parents have worries about him all the time!

I think he is pretty stupid. Sweet and cute he may be, but relatively just a big lout. Ain't that why the artists who made the character for the movie name him Stupid? ^^That's what i think anyways.

Ditto, my friend. I really think- as Fatal said- that he lives up to his name. He's just a idiot. A really cute and cuddly an' loveable idiot, don't get me wrong. But still an idiot.

i think he's like my dog, the Colonel. He's big and VERY strong, and has the potential for intelligence, but has a hard time comprehending things. Colonel will look at me and i can see intelligence in his eyes, see that he's thinking...but let him off his leash, and EVERY time without fail he will run away. we holler and holler, and he runs the other way.

also, i think the reason he's childish is, NO "REAL" REASON AT ALL. his creator probably made him that way 1) because it fits his name and personality - you look at him and know, "yeah, he's pretty dumb". Cartoon design is about 40% stereotypisim. (i read about 30 books on the subject) and 2) because it's endearing ^_^

I don't think Stupid is stupid or mentally disabled. Stupid is usually a slang term to use against someone who is not as smart as the person that said. This could mean he is only the stupiest one in the Toon Patrol, but not real life. He does act like a child, but I bet if you told him he was acting like a child, he would try and change it if he wanted to. About his cloths: he could dress like that only because he comfy. I usually wear stuff that makes me comfy and I'm sure his beenie is to amuse himself. I sometimes like staring at something going around and around. Doesn't mean I'm stupid. Anyway, I just thought I type that.

But how could a toon- who are by nature most often archetypes and stereotypes- named "Stupid"... not be stupid? Why would he say "Duh"? I'm sure if you asked Disney themselves, they would say that he was stupid. As a smarty-pants who has frequently encountered idiots, I think I can recognize stupidity. There are those who are unaware of their stupidity and are aggressive, and those who are at least somewhat aware and are entirely benevolent. Stupid is the latter, I think.
My question is why anyone would find it necessary to be merciful to him and give him more credit than he's given by the scriptwriters. After all, he interprets what SA says in Car Toon Spin literally most of the time, and not being able to catch onto non-literal uses of words isn't exactly worthy of a brainiac reward.
I say he has the same mental capacity of, say, a five- or six-year-old child who doesn't recognize wordplay when he hears it. As for his clothes, it's typical of a large child, so that convinces me. Nobody over thirteen would've worn a propeller beanie in the '40s, as far as I know. Regular beanies, yes, but a propeller is more of a kiddie thing.
No offense to you, Lynx, of course. I can perfectly understand why anyone would like spinning things. I have fun with a Wheel-O, after all...
