www.cartoonbrew.com/bad-ideas/zemeckis-to-ruin-yellow-submarine.htmlwww.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/lorax-and-nimh-going-cg.htmlIt's bad enough that they don't show Looney Tunes or Disney cartoons on TV anymore, and that not every show I liked is on official DVD, and that the 90's are officially nostalgia... but now they have to go and take two of my most cherished childhood memories and turn them into some CG showcase for absolutely no reason. No one has any appreciation for traditional animation anymore, except internet enthusiasts and people like John Lasseter. Kids today- and I can't believe I'm even saying that- don't have any idea what's behind the cartoons they watch. As much as I love Spongebob, they really should see the Tex Avery cartoons that inspired it. Please for the love of God... leave my childhood alone!!

I know right Toon Disney was the only place for me to watch Timon and Pumbaa and it was enjoyable but noooow we have to watch Disney XD.
I hate them so much for replacing my favorite show.

Yes, and of course there's Live-Action Reality Shows and Some Cartoons Network.
Is anyone else appalled by these plans to remake Yellow Submarine and The Secret of NIMH into CG films? I am SO boycotting them.

That's what the links are for. Apparently it's only an adaptation of the book, but still... the Don Bluth version means so much to me.

Oh, God, PLEASE don't tell me they're serious? About NIMN. NIMN is, like, one of my favorite Don Bluth films!

At the very least it won't have the exact same character design or anything like that, or some ugly CG translation thereof. I haven't read the book yet, so I'm not entirely sure what to expect, but it proves that it'll take on an entirely different direction... ...And nowadays, that direction will probably be nothing like Don Bluth did. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something like Timmy to the Rescue, but without the singing and a lot of cynical humor.
I guess only Beatles fans would appreciate Yellow Submarine, huh?

Actually Fatal, I think a reading of the book would help show where Bluth deviated. The book existed first, so therefore it, and not the wonderfully animated Bluth movie, is the 'be-all-end-all' for the story. Borrowed from Wikipedia: "In 1982, the animated film The Secret of NIMH was released. Directed by Don Bluth, it was not entirely faithful to the book; it adds a mystical element completely absent from the novel, the character Jenner is specifically made a villain, and several characters are killed in a sword fight for dramatic effect. Additionally, the title character's name was changed to Brisby to avoid potential objections from the makers of the frisbee, Wham-O." So I, for one, am actually fairly interested in seeing if they do thing by the book this time. That's not to say that I don't like the Bluth version, it's one of my favorites, but for me it's not sacrilege for someone to do a new version of a story. It's completely non-offensive to me because Bluth never owned the story in the first place.

Oh, I have a general idea where he deviated (particularly with that magic stone), but I get a gut feeling that it won't be nearly as good. No one makes stuff like the Bluth version anymore. See, kids are kind of wimpy nowadays, which I know all about from the trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood- except the kinds that are numb to gore- and I wouldn't be at all surprised if this new version reflects that. My point is that I doubt that it'll have the sheer level of awesomeness the Bluth version has. I also worry that they'd make it like Desperaux or something like that, which I'm extremely wary of.
Now Yellow Submarine... that was entirely the product of the innovative, creative team that made it, with the music and spirit of The Beatles as their guide. Unless it looks something like Beatles Rock Band instead of Polar Express, I seriously doubt I'll like it.
