We all agree that a toon can laugh their souls out, and some of us agree that extreme violence like a huge explosion can do the same, but what about disease or drug overdose? I don't really see anything that says otherwise, but I do admit it seems unlikely that a toon could catch or develop something deadly. I've seen common colds, flu, chicken pox, the mumps, allergies, stomach ache, and drug abuse all negatively affect a toon's health, but I can't help but wonder about things like cancer or the bubonic plague.
Is it all up to what a toon's creator imagines? Can toons not get these serious diseases, and do they not have to worry about taking too much heroin or something? It seems like a stretch.
As you may guess, I would consider this to be a case of an angel popping out, rather than the seeming disappearance of a toon altogether when they're Dipped.

I've thought about that too. I don't see toons getting things like cancer for some reason. Colds and other non-lethal things, yes. But the drugs...I think those who do drugs would have a higher tolerance for them than humans do.
Although Roger with the alcohol was a bad situation...seems he doesn't drink. So if that's the case, and he doesn't drink usually, having hard liquor would set him off.

I'm glad you posted this. I was thinking of writing a fanfic.
Anyway, my guess is that it depends on how their creator makes their immune system. I think for the Toon Patrol, it was high (looks at Wheezy). I still thinks it effects them (yellow teeth, nicotine nails...). Then again, that could also be how their creator made them.

Yeah, I think toons would have a higher tolerance for drugs, too. But surely they have their limits, like they have limits as to how much explosive material they can stuff down their bellies or laugh uncontrollably? Wheezy shows how much a toon can take without killing themselves, but I can't help but wonder how far a toon can go. Once again, it looks like it may rely on the creator's imaginations, since the subject of deadly disease and drug abuse is almost NEVER addressed in cartoons, especially the former. Sure, there are anti-drug cartoons, but I don't recall them ever mentioning death.

...So, you think Toons can't die from some illness caused by a drug?
...Well, it must have some effect, I mean, look at Roger. One sip of hard alchohol and "BAM!" he goes wacko. Wheezy also shows that cigarettes have an effect on his due to his raspy voice. ...Think about it. The weasels didn't seem to live long lives. Wheezy might have gotten cancer if he stayed alive long enough. Then again, it said the only way to kill a Toon is by DIP, but what if that toon isn't paint, but pixels?
...Off topic. Anyway, I'm just saying that nothing lives forever, so even a Toon has to die sometime.

I didn't say that they CAN'T die from drug abuse, I'm saying that it would seem that they have a higher tolerance of drugs, most often. Roger seems to be an exception, since he can't hold his liquor. It seems that it depends on the individual toon, but from my observation, generally toons can take it more. I notice that first-time smokers get sick, though, like Pinocchio. So I imagine that a toon would normally have to take a LOT of drugs to get themselves killed. A human smoking as many cigarettes as Wheezy would've died a lot sooner.
Like I've said before, I believe there are two kinds of death for a toon: the kind that makes your soul pop out from laughing too much, something like a huge explosion, or not being laughed at by others, and the kind that results from Dip, which is almost completely permanent and has no appearance of a disembodied soul. So toons ARE mortal, it just takes a lot for them to die, and there are several opportunities for them to come back. When it comes to the angel-popping type, a toon can come back if they're required to do so for the next scene or short, but I think it'd be a lot harder if they died that way offset.
There's a thread that discusses how CG, stop-motion, claymation, and even animatronic toons might die, but I'm afraid I can't find it...

No, I doubt that Toons die of disease or drug overdose. In fact, everyone here KNOWS that a Toon can only be killed by dip.

PS: Sorry about updating a very old thread. And besides, Fatal Hilarity doesn't come here anymore, anyway.
