So we all seem to have different ideas about Toons acquiring injuries or dying by means other than Dip, but can they bleed? Obviously they probably won't in cartoons, but offscreen, do you suppose they are just as susceptible to, say, papercuts or scraped knees as we are?

When a toon vampire comes into the picture, I think they would have to bleed in order for the vampire have something to drink! Of course, today's "edgy" toons can bleed all they want. And since I like old-school horror movies, my toon characters bleed fairly often.

In my mind they could always bleed.

Lol so true Fatalhilarity But when I watch WFRR, I see Rodger go through all kinds of stuff during the shoot in the beginning, including the frigerator dropped on his head, I'd think he would be bleeding or something, but he comes out only with a birds flying around his head. So it's a maybe for some toons, I dunno...

I mentioned in another thread how I think toons can be injured in two different ways- for comic effect and for dramatic effect. Like before, I use this Donald Duck comic I own as an example- in it, Donald falls down a cliff and breaks his leg. There is no instant healing or magical appearance of bandages, just a plain old broken leg. So I think it depends on the situation. To me it's more likely for a toon to bleed off-set than on-set.
I have a question, psychoangel- is there really still some disagreement on how a toon can die?

Bugs Bunny made a joke about Toons bleeding ink... As a Redwall fan, I'm tempted to inflict pretty gruesome injuries on my Toon characters sometimes... I don't know if there's a disagreement, I was just trying to avoid leaving anyone out by accident.

What Bugs Bunny cartoon is that? There's a certain amount of trouble caused by such statements made before WFRR came out, because sometimes people had different ideas... not to say that what Bugs said is wrong. Personally, I think it sounds a tad silly... Actually, now that I think about it, why would it be black ink? How would a toon blush red if their blood was black? Do we assume that it's red ink?
I know there are some who expand on classic cartoon violence by including gruesome injuries, but that's mostly a modern thing, and I don't really care for it myself. Itchy and Scratchy are the best known examples.
"If you prick us, doth we not bleed? ...ink?"

I kind of thought to have them bleed ink as well. It's the stereotypical thing...in a recent Mickey Mouse cartoon, The Phantom Blob stole everyone's colored ink so everything was in black and white.

it was in "Looney Tunes: Back in Action". He did the shower scene from "Psycho". And now I'm just confused. You're absolutely right! Blushing wouldn't work unless they had red blood/ink...unless they're messing with the laws of science again... Diz: Ya gotta love us for bein' able ta do dat XD

If they were filled with black/dark ink, they'd be totally black if their 'skin' let it show through. XD Maybe they get little lights implanted.
The funny thing about human skin is that it's the reaction of light passing through the different layers of skin that make it 'glow'. Maybe toons don't do it the same way?

Blushing wouldn't work unless they had red blood/ink...unless they're messing with the laws of science again... Diz: Ya gotta love us for bein' able ta do dat XD I dunno... somehow I just can't picture a cartoonist ever drawing a toon with black blood unless they were like a demon or something... Just picture the audience reaction: "Ack! Why is that adorable little squirrel bleeding black blood??" Well, I suppose paint would reflect light differently than flesh-and-blood skin, but light and shadow in cartooning is never totally unlike how light reflects on carbon-based lifeforms... I've seen a few toons get a pulsating vein in their heads when they're angry, and that's usually accompanied by the face growing red... that says to me that their blood is key to their skin color (besides pigment). I don't remember any line like that in Back In Action... I remember the Psycho parody with the chocolate sauce gag and all, but nothing to do with ink. I need to replace that busted VHS tape with a proper DVD... I haven't seen it in a while.
