OMG MIXED RACE RELATIONSHIPS!!!11 O: Geez... >.< Get out of the Fifties already, for God's sake! I'm not surprised by it at all. I don't trust Wikipedia. *laughs* That's probably why I hadn't heard that before. (It's a long story about me, other people's wrong information, and idiots who don't believe me because I can't show them a 'source'. ) As much as I understand not wanting to believe everything you've read, I've found Wikipedia to be pretty reliable myself... it's when they don't have citations that I become a tad doubtful. That's the reason for citations- so you can back up your claims. You can't expect everyone to know the same things you do, and to take your word for it. And me? I hardly ever believe anything without solid proof of it, except when it comes to philosophy and religion. *ahem* Back on topic... So... how does the story go, I wonder? I haven't seen anything about that. ...Okay, I just watched a trailer. My God, the animation looks incredible! I spotted a CG trolley, though! Can't fool me...

Well, my source was deemed unreliable because it was a magazine article. o.O It was also an interview with one of the people who worked on making the show in question. Instead, they 'corrected' me until I just gave up and let them look like idiots. If it -is- based on the book I'm thinking of, I could tell you exactly how it goes. (However I'm hesitant to believe it IS based on the book in question because said book is set in another time and is also set in an independent kingdom, which is most certainly not New Orleans. ;D)

An interview... with one of the people who worked on it... in a magazine... is NOT a reliable source? ...Don't listen to those idiots. That's one of the best sources there is.
Well, I will say that it's about some prince who got turned into a frog by a voodoo witchdoctor, and he wants the princess to kiss him to change him back.

*laughs* Well, it IS based on the books. www.edbakerbooks.com/It's only loosely based on the books though, so I'm wondering just how much has changed. (Having read all of the series up to "The Salamander Spell") It'll be interesting to say the least. ;D And yeah...that's what I thought too. They kept insisting that because some 'database' website (it's similar to IMDB, but NOT as reliable) said one unfinished episode had aired, that it had. Even one of the shows writers said it -had not-. It had never gotten past rough pencil tests before the show was cancelled. They even insisted the title I used was wrong. (I used the correct title. They used the 'fandom' title for it, which is a nickname and little more.)

Yeah, those sort of idiots get all caught up in their own pipe dreams and fanboy fantasies that they're blind to the truth. ...Which makes them pretty lousy fans, actually. If they really respected the show, they'd trust the word of that person. They haven't seen that episode, I'm sure, so THEY are the ones without proof!
Anyway... It looks to me like if Disney ever wanted to make a sequel, they'd have plenty of material to go on...

Song of the South fans are hoping that if this movie goes over well, Disney will FINALLY release Song of the South on DVD. *crosses fingers* Just to clarify, I don't like that movie because I'm racist or anything. I don't believe it's racist. Hey, the actors didn't have a problem with it! Yes, there is some misinterpretation about slave life. But we all know it's incorrect, right?

I don't think it's racist either. (Some deleted shots from Fantasia, on the other hand...) I heard someone suggest that a Disney Treasures set, with Leonard Maltin rambling on about the so-called "different era", would be a good idea. I agree with that... I really admire black people's contributions to world culture, so I think I know when something's offensive or not...
Anyway, I really, really hope it brings back 2D, like I said.

Deleted shots from Fantasia? Where does one find those?

Aw...I think she's kind of cute. (I love the annoyed look she gives the one when she flips the flowers out of her tail.) Don't like that she's basically in a 'shoeshine' girl slave mode...but she's kind of like the hard working people who make those moody pop stars look good, just for them to go prance around.
Now see, it's not fair to blame Disney for the racism in The Song of the South. That was present in the books/stories that the movie is based on. In as much as Uncle Remus misses the slave life. Apparently there were many of them who did, mainly because they didn't know any other kind of life and were intimidated by having all of this freedom. I've read the collection of stories, and Disney hasn't really done anything that wasn't in the book. (Which is still in print.)

Oh yeah, it's definitely milder than most. But it's those lips and the ribbons in her hair... now that's pretty broad. It's definitely not as bad as Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs...
What my mom noticed is that all the black people in the live action segments are the wiser, more sensible ones. And two little boys, one black and one white, go outside and play as equals! Walt always meant well- he was never mean about anything in his cartoons. I don't know about real life, though... I hear that some of Mickey's early black-and-white shorts are pretty bad, though...

I dunno about the earlier Mickey's. I've seen a lot of them, but don't recall anything being particularly racial...and if there was anything, it was likely the accepted norm at the time. (Sad as it is to say, but we didn't have equality until the sixties. And even then things were still lop-sided.) I have Walt's biography, and he really did try to be decent to everyone. He saw his whole company as a sort of extended family. He seemed like a really nice guy in general. Now, I won't say he was -always- nice...nobody is. But I've never heard anything that was substantiated where "Walt hated *insert race here*". But then you've also got to take in the time that he was born and raised in. I know it's the hairstyle that really gets the racism thing going, but still, I think she's adorable. If Toons were real, I'd probably want to hug her and help her whack the snot out of the snooty centauresses.

I heard a rumor that he was anti-Semitic, but I'm pretty sure it's just a rumor. A lot of people try to pin bad traits onto Walt just for spite, but the only thing I've heard for sure is that he was kind of strict and had women only in the ink and paint dept. (not a big surprise there). It's been confirmed that Yensid (Disney backwards), the sorcerer in Sorcerer's Apprentice, is a caricature of Walt. Apparently he furrowed his brow in that particular manner. Otherwise, it's mostly hoohah.
Some of the shorts included on Mickey Mouse in Black and White Vol. 2 are centered around blackfaces and minstrel shows, so they're lumped together in the "From the Vaults" section.

I got tickets to see an early release of The Princess and the Frog. I'm really looking forward to it! The more I learn about it, the more incredible it looks.
