And its going to be the traditional 2D animation! I'm very happy about this. I've been waiting a long time for Disney to do something. Pixar is amazing but they can't be doing all the movies all the time. The Disney Channel was putting a bad name to Disney for a long time :/
The new movie is going to be called "The Princess and the Frog" and she will be the first black Disney princess! I can't wait :3

Yup traditional animation! I love all the Pixar movies, they have amazing attention to detail and everything (they're the best at 3D) It should be coming out December 25, 2009.

Never heard about this, but in Germany the newest movies come after a few months into the cinemas, after they went new in USA.

I've known about this for some months (years?) now, because I found a Wikipedia article about it while it was still in production. I say that once this movie is a big hit, traditionally animated feature films will return to their well-deserved spotlight. Enchanted was dipping a toe in the water, I think. I think it's time that traditional animation proved itself to be just as dazzling as CG! No one's tried hard enough, I think. I mean, just look at Brother Bear and Home on the Range... they failed because they weren't trying hard enough. Anyone who's seen The Thief and the Cobbler knows that traditional animation can be just as much of a incredible spectacle as anything Pixar does. Disney was truly foolish to make the promise to never make traditional animation again. Now that John Lasseter is in charge of Disney's animation department, I think there's gonna be a bright future for Disney animation.
I predict that there'll be newfound interest in traditional animation once this movie is successful. After that, we'll have Disney's Rapunzel... who knows? Maybe we'll see a revival like we did in the late 80's and early 90's. Now that Toon Disney officially doesn't exist and has been replaced by Disney XD (yecch), NONE of the Disney Afternoon shows with the classic characters can be seen on television anymore. That says to me that classic cartoons are out of favor yet again and that the Golden Age of television animation and the classic cartoon Renaissance is officially over.
You can tell I feel very strongly about all this, don't you?

Don't worry I feel very strongly about it too. I've missed the traditional animation so much, and it is such hard work (when done right). Even Who Framed Roger Rabbit was spectacular. I don't know whats happened to Disney, I just hope these new 2D movies will help too, with a bring back to 2D animation.

The Japanese are still doing 2D Animation since it is cheeper then CGI over there. I think Disney just thought that out.

They've been using overseas animators for television for years now though...

True. I am excited to see The Princess and The Frog though. It looks awesome. And yay for a princess that isn't out of a cookie cutter mold. No offense, but the princesses are all almost the same! Jasmine is the only one who really stands out...but even she sometimes reverts to being the 'good little girl'. I'd like to see a really butt kicking princess sometime.

Oh wow. It reminds me of a book series I read once..."The Frog Princess". I want to see it even more now. I -love- that it's set in New Orleans, too.

Is it? I thought they kept saying "The Frog Prince"...which would be the classic story that "The Frog Princess" was based on.

I don't trust Wikipedia. *laughs* That's probably why I hadn't heard that before. (It's a long story about me, other people's wrong information, and idiots who don't believe me because I can't show them a 'source'. )

I'm very excited for this movie as well, as Disney is going back to 2D animation and the movie is not a crappy sequel/prequel. Hahahaha. However, the reaction to "The Princess and the Frog" has been half positive and half negative. Check this out to see what I mean. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzzlIO6OHU0 And just so y'all know, I really, really, REALLY hate these kind of people.
