if you were able to pet a Toon, like Sylvester or Pluto, do you think they'd fee soft like a 'real' pet, or would they be smooth like a plastic toy, being made of ink and paint?

I think it'd be soft. After all, animators do draw fur texture...

that's what i was thinking. but if they're painted, how can that be? do they gain texture when they come to life?

Well, to me, a toon only obeys what his/her creator(s) intended to do with them. Because animators and cartoonists frequently draw texture, I figure they would have texture, 'cause that's what the purpose of the design is. Besides, if you touched them, they would only make plastic-sounding squeaks if they felt paint-like- and we all know that they make much more sound effects than that. Also, the best animation out there remembers that, say, the material of their clothing should interact and react with other objects like they do in real life. I also figure that real-life humans would be uncomfortable with touching them if their texture contradicted its appearance- total brain flip-flop. Again, I think the creators have the final word- if they say they're soft and fuzzy, then they are soft and fuzzy.
I have to admit that I admire the way you think, psychoangel- you're always thinking about these questions that go unanswered in the movie... I'm lucky because one of my own projects explores those sort of things, so having someone else come up with these helps a lot. Two heads are better than one, as they say.

i agree - you seem to think like i do, because you always answer my questions with something i would say were i smart enough to come up with a good answer, you know? it's always good to have someone whom you can bounce ideas off of ^_^

Fuzzy and soft. As an artist, all my characters that are animals are most definitely intended to be soft and fuzzy.

Me? No. I really -really- don't like DA. I have a FA page though there's not a whole lot up there. I'm trying to get my art site in order though. And another thing: In the old Tom and Jerry and Sylvester/Tweety toons, the cats end up being shaved. You can't be shaved unless you have fur to begin with. (Not to mention Daffy often ends up being plucked in the same way.)

Applied to toons it usually means nothing, but hey.

I mentioned in the "Useful stuff for fanfics" thread that there's an episode of Bonkers that's titled "Is Toon Fur Really Warm?" and involves a little girl hugging one of her favorite toons. If a little girl likes to hug a toon, and describes it as "warm", then by golly toon fur has GOT to be soft. I can't imagine a little girl wanting to hug something totally smooth. ...I know I wouldn't. Quite frankly, that episode made me wish that I could hug a toon. XP

I want to hug a toon...*grabs Smartass and hugs him* I wish I could get Bonkers on DVD and watch it again. The version of Toontown in there meshes better with WFRR's Toontown than any others I've seen.

You can get it on DVD, but's it's an incomplete, unofficial one. I got it off ioffer.com- that's why I'm able to talk about it! The reason why Bonkers is so similar to WFRR is because it was originally going to star Roger Rabbit! Amblin objected to Roger becoming a franchise for some reason, though... There are some blatant contradictions to WFRR in it, regardless. It's rather embarrassing, actually.

I wanna hug a Toon, too! ...but they all have restraining orders against me... (-_- )
SRSLY?! Roger almost had his own TV show?! THAT WOULD'VE BEEN THE MOST AWESOME THING IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!
