Two words: Laughing gas.

A couple of questions: How would this work on toons that aren't susceptible to laughing themselves to death? I always got the impression that the weasels (and the hyenas) were weaker to it than others. We're talking about the death that results in the popping out of an angel, right? I think there's a distinction between that death and the death caused by Dip. I'm sure you've noticed that Smarta** doesn't get an angel. And don't quote me on this, but I would imagine there are some cartoons in which the character inhales laughing gas and doesn't die. I certainly haven't heard anything to the contrary... Sorry if I sound like a party pooper.

o right, sorry, yes i meant the angel popping out type. maybe "evil" Toons are the sort more prone to death by laughter?

I do admit that the way Roger says "You're knocking 'em dead!" seems to imply that the weasels aren't the only ones who can laugh themselves to death. I remember FlametheCharmander's fic interpreting it as something all toons can do. On the other hand, the Hyena Cousins imply that having tendency to laugh a lot makes it more likely. Then again, I often got the vibe that toons laugh a lot at each other's antics, anyway, since Roger loves Goofy so much... Which reminds me of how it might be a social conundrum in the toon world: when is it okay to laugh at a toon? What if your laughter humiliates them or even hurts their feelings? I often think about those sort of things.

i guess it depends - the way Roger talks about Goofy ("No one takes a hit like Goofy! What timing! What finesse!"), it sounds like an evaluation of a fellow actor. He laughs because he can relate. Also, he says, "Toons are supposed to make people laugh". I'm thinking that if they're in a cartoon, they're acting - doing their job. And so they can laugh at each other and feel good about being laughed at by humans (think of a violinist feeling good about the applause recieved after a solo). But if, say, Roger saw Goofy slip on a banana peel and fall by accident while passing him on the street, Roger wouldn't laugh, because in that situation it would be hurtful - he's not acting. That's how I see it, anyway ^_^

Yeah, I figured that, but we also see Roger deliberately being funny offstage, so to speak. The handcuffs gag is a perfect example. So... how would you tell if a toon, when out in the real world, is trying to be funny or not? What cues could you take? Of course we all know how the weasels will laugh at anything they find amusing, intentional or not.
