I'm a bit more *ahem* "exotic" with horror movies, so I'm not sure my taste will satisfy yours. Let the Right One In is a wonderful film and I hope to say the same for its american remake. Zombie films are good to watch when you're bored on a Friday night. I prefer the ol' cheesy italian zombie films such as Zombie 2 and City of the Living Dead. Japanese films are also good to watch, but just be prepared for a lot of weirdness and foreign culture stuff in it. Lots of people get confused with some films because they don't understand the japanese myths and culture to it. David Lynch makes fantastic and mind-boggling films.
One movie that I'm wanting to check out is Antichrist by Lars von Trier. I've heard quite a lot about it and it has gained a cult following due to a very silly scene in the film involving a fox and a Darth Vader-like voice. I will advise that, due to some reviews I've read, this film is not for everyone due to its very graphic violence, dark and frightening images and sexual themes. Still, I've heard it's great to watch.
Ghostbusters isn't really a horror film, but some scenes are disturbing for younger viewers. I know the library scene in the first one and the bad guy in the second one scared the daylights out of me as a child. The Omen (original) is also a great film to watch if you like the films Lola listed.
