It's a movie about a cowardly boy who's too afraid to do anything. One day, however, he has to run an errand for his father, but is caught in a storm. The nearest shelter Richard (the boy) can find is an old library run by an eccentric man. He tries to persuade Richard into getting some books with a library card, but Richard just wants to call his parents and go home.
As he is looking for the phone, Rich comes across a painted rotunda on the ceiling. Suddenly, he slips on some dripping water and is knocked out. When he wakes up, the rotunda's paint falls and turns him into an animation. In the animated world, he meets a wizard called the Pagemaster, who sends him on a journey to find the exit.
Along the way, he meets three books: Adventure, Fantasy, and Horror. Together, they meet Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, Moby Dick, Long John Silver, and a dragon. It may be underrated, but I actually LOVE this movie. I used to watch it a lot when I was little, if not twice a day. It features, Mac Culkin, Christopher Lloyd, Patrick Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, Frank Welker, Leonard Nimoy, and more.
