This tale is told years after Harry Potter defeats Voldemort. It will include the new generation's kids, such as Scorpius Malfoy and Rose, Ron and Hermione's daughter. Please read and reply, tell me if this is good or if it sucks and what I might need to improve on. Or you can just post a regular comment, your choice.
There's Nothin' Bad about Good News
Kali had been lounging in her bed reading The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts when her mum called her down for supper.
“What is it? Broiled salamander head?” Her thirteen-year-old brother, Kyle, yelled from his room as she started down the stairs.
“Don’t be silly. I made chicken and potatas. Now get down here and join us before your meal gets cold,” her mother called back. The delicious smell of roasted chicken, baked potato, and vegetable soup that wafted from the kitchen made her stomach growl. She took a seat at the table and laid her napkin on her lap. Her brother trotted in after her, looking for the food. Her mother set the chicken down on the table and Kyle hastily tore off a leg and started munching. Katie, Kali and Kyle’s baby sister, pointed at him from her highchair and squeaked, “Eww.”
“Kyle, mind your manners, boy. What will your uncle Darren think of you when you eat like that at Hogwarts?” Her mother scolded, and she put her hands on her hips. Uncle Darren was one of the many ghosts that haunted Hogwarts, mainly the Ravenclaw and Slytherin homerooms. Darren died the night the Chamber of Secrets first opened by looking at the monster it unleashed. The best part about him was that he was still a child, about the age of twelve. He was always causing trouble with practical jokes, and, back in the day, he was just too happy to be of service for the legendary Fred and George Weasley, AKA the twins, and Jordan, their other friend, by going down to Honeyduke’s and Zonko’s and smuggling the treasures back to the Gryffindor Tower. Kali smiled. Darren would probably think that manners were of no use and should be wrinkled up and thrown away.
“Gee, I don’t know, mom,” Kyle replied coolly as he sat down and dumped his napkin on his lap. “I’m sorry, really I am. I’ll use my manners from now on, I promise.”
“What do you want?” asked his mother warily as she, too, sat down.
“Can I eat the rest of the chocolate cake after supper?”
“Yes. But share it with your sisters. In equal amounts,” she added knowingly. He sighed and nodded reluctantly. Just then their dad burst through the front door and zipped into the kitchen.
“Kathrin.” he said excitedly. “You’ll never believe it.”
“What is it, dear?” she replied, looking up, seeming more startled than anything.
“Just look at what I found in the mail.” He handed her a peice of paper that has already been taken out of its envelope. He was as giddy as a school boy, and was practically bouncing up and down. “It’s a letter for Kali! From Hogwarts! Hogwarts wants her to board with them, along with her brother in his second year! I always knew I had special children! Two, count it, two of my little punkins are going to the best Wizarding school in the world! Read it aloud, honey. Read exactly what it says.”
Kali’s mother held the paper out in front of her and read:
“‘HOGWARTS SCHOOL
of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY
Headmistress: Minerva McGonagall
Dear Kali Collins,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
Yours Sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall
Head Mistress’”
Her mother looked up and smiled. “This is wonderful!”
Kali was going to Hogwarts? With her brother? To Hogwarts with her brother? YES- wait. Was going with her brother a plus or a minus? She glanced at him. He was grinning ear-to-ear and making two thumbs-up’s at Kali. It was a bonus for sure. And, best yet, it was September 1 tomorrow! And her parents didn’t have to send another owl, the first one should have arrived by now, carrying a letter that stated that their kid(s) were going to school this semester.
After dinner, Kali rushed up to her bedroom to start packing. She lifted up her pillow, pulled out a small brown cloth sack, and threw it into her suitcase. It made the sound of several small pieces of metal banging together when it hit the bottom of the suitcase. Better take along some extra change to buy a wand and a pet. Her parents were buying everything else. Oh, she was so excited. If school was as awesome as her brother said it was, then she’d have a blast!
Her door creaked open, snapping her out of her thoughts. It was Kyle, leaning against the doorway.
“So. Can’t wait, can ya?” he said, watching her pack everything from Adolph barrettes to Zinker Inker’s pen ink.
“No way, are you kidding? You were the same way last year, weren’t you?”
“Of course. Say, do you know what? How about we visit Hazel’s Bewitched and Jinxed Pet Clinic and Pound, 'For Animals Whose Spells are Unremovable,' in Diagon Ally tomorrow? I bet we can get you something better than an owl or some smelly cat.” Kyle crossed his arms.
“But, won’t I get in trouble if I do that?” Kali said, zipping her suitcase.
“Sure, but the wimps at school won’t take your pet away or anything if they find it already inside the castle walls. Besides, it wouldn’t even cost you a Knut. Just pick a pet who isn’t that screwed up, like a puppy who always walks backwards, or a fish that sinks, or something.”
“Castle walls? Hogwarts is a castle?” She looked him with her eyebrows raised, as if she couldn’t believe it.
“Well, if it’s got towers, what else would it be?”
“Hm. Well, I’m going to bed- the earlier you snooze, the sooner tomorrow comes. G’night.”
“Night.” He waved and closed the door. She climbed into bed and turned off her lamp.
Kali couldn’t sleep that night. She tossed and turned until the first ray of sun shown through her window.
Today was the day!
