Hello, there! Glad to meet you! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My name is Oak. People affectionately refer to me as the Pokémon Professor. This world is inhabited far and wide by creatures called Pokémon. For some people, Pokémon are pets. Others use them for battling. As for myself…I study Pokémon as a profession. But first, tell me a little about yourself.

…Um, I'm a girl? And my name is…Linn?

Right…So your name is Linn.

I…just said that…

This is my grandson. He's been your rival since you both were babies.

Nice…

…Erm, what was his name now?

….Really? It's Gary.

…Er, was it Gary?

Yes!

That's right! I remember now! His name is Gary!

I shot up, sweat covering me. I blinked multiple times, looking around a bit before I realized I was in my new room. …It wasn't too bad. The floors were hideous and not to mention the room was pretty bland looking. I glanced at the light green bookshelf, Pokémon books filling it. I sighed.

"What I wouldn't give to have a Pokémon…" I sigh again.

I booted up my PC, checking my mailbox. I sighed, again, when no mail was there. I shrugged and looked in Item storage. I forgot what I put in here so checked "withdraw". A potion. Why I even have that, I don't know. I withdrew it, anyway.

I turned off the PC, standing up and stretching. "Wander what Mom's doing," I asked myself as I headed to the stairs. Before I climbed down I noticed a posted notice. Blinking, I read it.

"If you're confused, ask for help! Press the L or R Button! ….what?" I blink at the note before shrugging, "Must be for one of my games."

I go downstairs and see Mom sitting at the table. I head over to her, hugging her. She glanced up at me and said, "…Right. All girls dream of traveling. It said so on TV. Oh, yes. Professor Oak, next door, was looking for you."

"What?"

Mom only nodded before looking at the table again.

P L A Y 1

Linn blinked at her mother several times, her brown eyes showing confusing. Her mother, however, simply sat there, as usual, her mind on other things. Linn simply sighed, walking out of her house. She glanced around Pallet Town, wondering why her and her mother even returned. It was a very small town, with no special features at all.

Linn headed over to her neighbor’s house, opening the door. She was greeted with silence, Gary’s sister the only one in the one story house. Linn sat next to her, strands of brown hair falling from her shoulders as she turned to Daisy. Daisy flinched, sensing someone watching her. She slowly looked at Linn, gleaming when she saw who it was.

“Hi, Linn!” She said, excitedly. “My brother, Gary, is out at Grandpa’s lab.”

Linn nodded a thank-you, standing up and leaving the house. Once outside, she leaned on the door. “The lab?” She asked herself. Memories ran wild as she thought of the lab. How her and Gary would spend time there, competing over stupid and childish things. Slowly, Linn blinked and she headed over to the lab.

She glanced around the clean, white floors, puzzled at how many people where in Oak’s lab. She looked at one of the bookshelves, only to learn most had informational books on Pokémon. She walked to where Gary was, glancing at the Poke Balls on the table, before turned to Gary. In return, the dark blonde boy sighed, “What, it’s only Linn? Gramps isn’t around.”

Linn huffed, “Then where is he?”

Gary only shrugged, obviously seeing Linn as something not worth his time. The girl huffed, walking away from her rival with clear dislike.

Confused, Linn left Oak’s lab, unsure where to go. She started to head to her house, but noticed the path leading out of Pallet Town. The path that, one day, she would leave and get a life. A good one. Curiosity soon came to her when she noticed the path wasn’t blocked by the usual annoying boy. Slowly, she moved one foot.

“Hey! Wait!”

Jumping from the sudden noise, Linn turned only to magically find Oak.

“It’s unsafe! Wild Pokémon live in tall grass! You need your own Pokémon for your protection. I know! Here, come with me!” Oak said.

Confused and unsure what to do, Linn followed. Ironically, she was lead back to the lab. As her and Oak entered, Gary yelled out, “Gramps,” as he hopped from the rolling chair Oak had, “I’m fed up with waiting!”

“Gary? Let me think…” As usual, Oak had most likely forgotten something that remotely had to do with Gary. Linn smirked.

“Oh,” Oak murmured, “that’s right, I told you to come! Just wait,”

He turned to Linn, “Here, Linn. There are three Pokémon here. The Pokémon are held inside these Poke Balls. When I was young,” he closed his eyes, “I was a serious Pokémon Trainer. But now, in my old age, I have only these three left. You can have one,” He opened his eyes, “Go on, choose!”

Gary growled, “Hey! Gramps! No fair! What about me?”

Oak sighed, “Be patient, Gary. You can have one, too!”

Linn smirked at Gary before heading over to the table. She stared at the Poke Balls for a bit; she stared at how the seemed spotless, pure. Slowly, she picked up the one in the middle. Oak raised a brow with a smile, “Hm! Squirtle is your choice. It’s one worth raising. So, Linn, you’ve decided on the Water Pokémon Squirtle?”

Linn stared the picture under the Poke Ball. A smiling, blue turtle creature. His red eyes seemed to just sparkle with happiness. Murmuring, Linn said, “Yes….and I’ll name him…Carlisle”

Gary shoved past, ignoring Linn. “I’ll take this one, then!” He growled. Linn rolled her eyes, simply walking back to Oak.

“If a wild Pokémon appears,” he began, “your Pokémon can battle it. With it at your side, you should be able to reach the next town.”

Linn sighed, and began walking out. Gary sharply turned to face her, yelling, “Wait, Linn! Let’s check out our Pokémon! Come on, I’ll take you on!”

Gary quickly threw the Poke Ball, his Bulbasaur popping out.

Linn flinched, but shakily threw her own Poke Ball, Carlisle jumping out and spinning on his shell before jumping up. Oak stood to the side, sighing, “Oh, for Pete’s sake…So pushy, as always.”

“I know, right?” Linn smirked at Oak.

“Hey!” Gary growled.

“Anyway,” Oak said, “Linn. You’ve never had a Pokémon battle before, have you?”

Linn shook her head, Carlisle hugging her leg. She glanced at him with a small smile, patting his blue head. Oak continued, “A Pokémon battle is when Trainers pit their Pokémon against each other. The Trainer that makes the other Trainer’s Pokémon faint first, wins,” he glanced at Linn, “but rather than talking about it, you’ll learn more from experience. Try battling and see for yourself.”

Linn blinked, looking at the Bulbasaur. “Uh…right. Carlisle, use….Tackle?”

The two Pokémon raced to hit each other, but Gary’s Bulbasaur was faster and hit the Squirtle first. Carlisle barely flinched and hit the Grass type Pokémon.

“Inflicting damage on the foe is the key to any battle.” Oak said.
“Right,” Linn said, “Carlisle, Tackle again!”

This time, Carlisle was faster, hitting the Bulbasaur much faster. Again, the Squirtle started to rapidly attack. Equally, the Bulbasaur was able to hit Carlisle. Carlisle narrowed his red eyes before running to his foe and using one more Tackle.

The Bulbasaur hit first, but once Carlisle fainted, the Bulbasaur’s eyes rolled to his head, fainting. Carlisle smiled, his crimson eyes gleaming. Linn went and picked him up, hugging him. “Good, Carlisle.”

“What,” Gary yelled, “unbelievable! I picked the wrong
Pokémon!”

Linn smirked at him, “Yeah, go pick the Fire type, that’ll do awesome against Carlisle.” Gary glared, huffing. He threw some coins near her feet. Blinking Linn picked up the coins, counting the numbers they had on the golden coins all adding to 80. She blinked.

Oak smiled at her, “Hm! Excellent! If you win, you earn prize money, and your Pokémon will grow! Battle other Trainers and make your Pokémon strong!”

Gary glanced at his grandfather, murmuring, “Okay. I’ll make my Pokémon battle to toughen it up,” this time, yelling, he said, “Linn! Gramps! Smell you later!”

And with that, he ran out. Linn stood there, holding Carlisle as he tilted his head, his expression one of confusion.

So here is the first chapter! Please expect some of these chapters to take awhile because I'm litarlly typing and playing this game. I picked Pokemon because...well, it's easier to type and play. Multitask. If you play Pokemon, you know what I mean.
