I'm afraid I'm having a case of writer's block, so it won't be up for a little while.

An interesting thing I forgot to mention was that when Stupid protected Maddy in Chapter 10, the argument originally escalated into a fight with punches and kicks. I figured that fighting his own boss didn't sound like Stupid, so the physical fight had to go.

Yes, I agree that fighting his own boss wouldn't be a good idea. He's too loyal.

I've come up with this idea that the weasels feel like they can't go back to Toon Town with Maddy and Roger after retrieving the joy. SG (Smart Guy) sums it all up here:
"I don't think Toon Town's forgotten what we've done..."

That's a great idea, Brightone!

Thanks, plus it makes sense if you think about it. I doubt the other toons would forgive and forget what the weasels had done to them.

This is getting good so far. Great work on this so far. Here's hoping the gang finds the joy quickly before Toon Town disappears.

Remember how I said that the character of Maddy went through different ages? I forgot to mention that at one point she was actually a nine-year-old boy! That idea was thrown out fairly quickly, though.

Okay guys, I finally got the next chapter up!
Chapter 14: Hidden Compassion
After walking for a few hours, Maddy and the Toons stopped to rest in a clearing by a pond. Maddy pulled out some snack bars and sandwiches from her pack for herself and Roger to eat.
The weasels watched longingly as Maddy and Roger ate. As ghosts, they didn’t have bodies, so they couldn’t feel hunger. In short, the weasels didn’t need to eat. Still, they missed all the flavors and tastes of their favorite foods. They also missed that feeling of contentment that comes with a full stomach. Stupid licked his lips longingly. Oh, how he wanted to join in on the meal!
Maddy pulled out two more sandwiches. The weasels watched in amazement as she wolfed them down. All that traveling had made her ravenously hungry.
“Quite an appetite she’s got there, eh boss?” Greasy quipped.
“Yeah,” Smart Guy agreed, “Who would’ve thought a little girl could eat so much?”
“Well, I’m a growing girl!” Maddy pointed out.
Having eaten her fill, Maddy leaned back and gave a sigh of contentment.
“Feelin’ better, Maddy?” Roger asked.
“Um-hmm,” Maddy said nodding, “much better.”
She doesn’t know how good she has it! Smart Guy thought bitterly.
Maddy was already tired from the day’s journeying, and her full stomach only served to increase her exhaustion. Using her pack as a pillow, she was soon sound asleep. Roger soon followed suit.
The weasels didn’t need sleep any more than they needed food. After an hour, they heard what sounded like whimpering. It was Maddy, and she was shivering from the chill of the night air.
For the first time in his life, or afterlife in this case, Greasy felt a twinge of compassion. He stood up and went over to Maddy. Greasy took off his green coat. He laid it on the shivering child. It seemed to work because she stopped shivering after a minute.
“Why did you do that?” Wheezy asked when Greasy returned to the group.
“I don’t know…” Greasy said softly. He pondered about his act of kindness for a good long while.

I know the whole coat thing makes no sense, but then again, cartoons never made sense! But it does require suspension of disbelief here. Just remember, toons are unbound by the laws of physics. And the coat has to cover Maddy up for the sake of the story. Does that answer your question?
The other thing here is that I wanted to show just how much the weasels miss being alive. By watching Maddy and Roger eat, it internally humbles them, because eating was something they took for granted in life, and now it's gone. This scenario was inspired by a scene in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.
