.2.
Sunraye spent the rest of the morning sitting on the outside of the train, watching the city of New York leave for a bit before county side came. She watched as the images of cows sped by, not seeming to be bothered by the train. Soon, small towns and cities could be seen. She noticed kids playing in the small cities, and, at one point, someone’s bag launch had fallen next to her. She blinked, looking and noticing it was the guys working on the roof. The Cheshire smiled, eating a ham sandwich for breakfast.
As another sign past, she read, “Welcome to Atlantic City.” Smiling, the feline took a breath and jumped off, rolling as she hit the ground. The train moved on, not even noticing their missing stowaway.
Sunraye looked around her, smiling at the beauty of Atlantic City. The Cheshire soon started walking, wondering around the new city. Music of all kinds caught her ears as scents reached her nose. The cat didn’t stop until she reached a place called Blue Romancer. Taken interest, she entered it.
The place was dim, even in daylight (afternoon by the time Sunraye reached it). The walls and floor were a wood, while a bar was at the far right, a little way off a stage near it. People who where here were either drinking at the bar or at the tables, all socializing, no one on the stage.
“Can I help you?”
Sunraye was a bit startled at the noise, but turned. Her odd eyes met pure black ones, belonging to a handsome dog. He gave a smile, “Sorry.”
“It’s ok…I was just looking around…New.”
His smile widened. “Atlantic is beautiful, isn’t it?”
Sunraye simply nodded, not sure how to answer this stranger. She looked around the bar, not sure what to do. She left New York to start a new life…
“Do you need a drink, cause my mate over there can fix you one up.” The dog said.
She turned to look at the green pigeon. She was unsure if the dog just had an accent that required the word “mate” as “friend” or if he was…
Sunraye shook her head, not really caring. She frowned and said, “I…have no money.”
The dog had an expression of understanding, “Oh…one of those? Running away from your home? Trying to find a place where you can get away from it all…right?”
Sunraye blinked at him, straightening up, “…Yeah.”
He smiled, “Well, I’m K.K Slider. I own this bar…and I know what you’re going through,” his black eyes went to the ceiling as his hand rested under his chin. Several moments passed before the canine smiled, saying, “Tell you what, what if you work for me? We have a room up top that me and Brewster used to store stuff. You can stay there if you work here.”
Sunraye gave a small smile, “Thank you…but I’d be a terrible waitress.”
“No problem. How’s your voice?”
She blinked. “My…voice?”
He ignored her, looking at the stage, “How ‘bout you go up there and sing?”
With that, he took the shocked Cheshire’s shoulder, leading her to the stage before he gently pushed her on it. She blinked, looking out into the bar. Some eyes had glanced up at her, but not many paid her any mind. The Cheshire looked at the stool, seeing a guitar near it. Shakily, she picked it up.
Slowly, she started playing.
The sound of the guitar brought more people’s attention, even the bar tender, who looked at her, his glasses lowered.
Gulping, she started to sing.
My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why
I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be grey,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad,
it's not so bad
I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be grey,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad,
it's not so bad
Her voice rang out in the bar, a nice and alto voice of a female. Sunraye soon closed her eyes, continuing.
I drank too much last night, got bills to pay,
my head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there'll be hell today,
I'm late for work again
And even if I'm there, they'll all imply
that I might not last the day
And then you call me and it's not so bad,
it's not so bad and
my head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there'll be hell today,
I'm late for work again
And even if I'm there, they'll all imply
that I might not last the day
And then you call me and it's not so bad,
it's not so bad and
For a moment, Sunraye thought back to New York. How, before all the drama started, she would hang with her friends.
I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life
Sunraye opened her eyes, a single and unknown tear sliding down her cheek.
Push the door, I'm home at last
and I'm soaking through and through
Then you hand me a towel
and all I see is you
And even if my house falls down,
I wouldn't have a clue
Because you're near me and
I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life
and I'm soaking through and through
Then you hand me a towel
and all I see is you
And even if my house falls down,
I wouldn't have a clue
Because you're near me and
I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life
As the song rang out, the bar was silent. Soon, clapping started, along with whistles. K.K, smiling, got on stage. He took the microphone and saying, “That, folks, was the new addition to Blue Romancer.”
As more cheering started up, K.K turned to her and asked, “What’s your name, kitty-cat?”
She smiled. “Sunraye D’Furlow.”
Dear Mon Ami,
Atlantic City is beautiful. I even got a job at this great bar called Blue Romancer. The owner is so nice. And hot, too. Sadly, he’s taken by the bar tender, a quiet pigeon named Brewster. I don’t mind. At least I know they didn’t hire for my body or crap like that.
I also have a place to stay. Here, at the bar. I’m on the top of it, where it smells like vanilla, oddly. I don’t know why.
Love and miss you,
Sunraye
P.S. I sent you picture with this letter. Of K.K.
Song might have a cuss word in it. Song from first chapter was Dear Agony (c) Breaking Benjamin. This one is Thank You (c) Dido. K.K and Brewster (c) Animal Crossing.
Picture (c) Me. Took from phone. Why it looks bad. It says:
My new boss! Love, Sunraye
